What is Affiliate Marketing?

Are you a good writer? Do you love playing around on the Internet? If you can answer “yes” to both of these questions, you might want to consider getting into affiliate marketing. With affiliate marketing, you would get paid doing the simplest of things; ‘convincing’ people to buy from your affiliate URLs. If you are successful you will get a commission.

Ever since its inception, thousands of people have earned incomes from affiliate marketing every year. Some only make a few hundred dollars while there are others who have made millions. That’s right, it is possible to become a millionaire from affiliate marketing, though you will need to be willing to make some sacrifices and think outside of the box.

What does this mean? Well, first off, you need to set aside time for your affiliate marketing efforts. Even if you’re already working, you must find a way to make affiliate marketing a secondary priority. This is what separates the wheat from the chaff in the affiliate marketing world. In fact, there are some that are so dedicated to the concept, they have actually quit their jobs to pursue Internet marketing full-time.

Fortunately, this is not required, especially if you learn how to work smart with the little bit of time you do have. And to work smart, you must do two things: 1) promote the right type of affiliate program and 2) follow the techniques behind search engine optimization.

To promote the right type of affiliate program, you will need to search the companies or networks operating them. Some affiliate programs have more pagerank than others, so you can be assured you can gain income if you work hard enough. Amazon and Commission Junction are a couple of examples, though don’t rely just on the network. You must also decide which product you are going to promote. To do this, use the statistics given by the network. They will tell you which products are earning their affiliates are earning the most money.

Once you have picked out your affiliate product, you will need to promote it through search engine optimization. This process begins with the creation of a website. If you do not know how to make a website, you can use social networking services like Myspace or Squidoo to create a blog or a mini-site. It really doesn’t matter, just as long as you concentrate on the content, since that’s what’s going to bring traffic to your site.

So, how should a person go about writing SEO content? The answer can be summed up in one simple word: keywords. Include the keywords people are looking up on Google and other search engines. Place them 2 to 6 percent of the time in your content. Make sure you don’t overdo this because if you do you could get blacklisted from Google.

If you do this right, your affiliate marketing efforts will begin to soar without you doing any more work… especially if you concentrate on niches that have high demand but low competition.
